Abstract
Provides a practical case illustration of the development and implementation of Web-based induction training in an international financial services company. In the context of continuing growth and change, helping new employees to swiftly familiarise and integrate into the company is seen as being critically important Shows how the power and capabilities of the company intranet are applied to support the induction process. The design of the induction training is examined from the perspective of the Lancaster learning model. Describes how the development of interactive training demonstrator systems is helpful when presenting the proposed induction training process to operational staff in order to clarify operational needs. The practical benefits of this approach to induction training are summarised from the perspective of new employees and for human resource management.
Introduction
Effective training of staff is recognised as a critical success factor for a financial services company that is rapidly developing internationally and is increasingly dependent upon sophisticated information systems. Recruitment and induction training of staff, so that they can quickly contribute to the business, is a key step in the process. This article describes how financial services company De Lage Landen (DLL) decided to capitalise upon the power of its information systems to support effective induction training.
DLL was founded in Eindhoven, The Netherlands in 1969 in response to a growing need among larger agricultural operations for more sophisticated and far-reaching financial services. It is a subsidiary of the Rabobank Group. In 1987, DLL initiated a program of European expansion, and began offering services in neighbouring European countries. It subsequently expanded into the Americas in support of a partner in agricultural equipment manufacturing and has continued to expand its product line and partner base. As the playing-field for all customers became increasingly global, so did the demand for banking support in a number of industries.
Today DLL International is organised into three Divisions that provide services throughout Europe and the Americas. The company is an international leader in providing partnership in high quality asset financing.
