Within the last year, schools and businesses worldwide fell victim to viruses such as the Melissa Virus, the Happy99.exe virus, the Chernobyl virus, and the PrettyPark.exe virus. Other statistics accentuate the story: in its annual Computer Virus Prevalence Survey, the International Computer Security Association, Inc. reports an exponential increase in the rate of computer virus infections. The average rate of infection during January and February 1999 was approximately twice the rate for the same period in 1998 - which in turn was double the rate for January and February in 1997. Statistics such as these illustrate how important it is for schools to protect their investment in computers by utilizing anti-virus software such as Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus 2000.
