This dictionary is in its 65th year with the last edition (ninth) being in 2001. This latest edition, under much pressure from enthusiasts, has reverted back to include the names of Ainsworth and Bisby on the first page and rightly so! These two mycologists were the co-founders of this Dictionary which has had an interesting history with the first edition being prepared at night whilst on fire-watch duty during the Second World War bombing of London.
All organisms traditionally studied by mycologists are covered including fungi, lichens, slime moulds, water moulds, yeasts and fungal analogues. This edition has taken into account two major developments in the classification of fungi.
