This is the latest volume in the Blackwell Companions to the Ancient World series of which two titles have been published and a further eight are in preparation. Aimed like other volumes in the series at the student and serious general reader, it is intended to give a comprehensive overview of Near Eastern civilisations from the Bronze age all the way through to the conquests of Alexander the Great. As is usual for the Blackwell Companions the essays making up this volume have all been written by leading experts and as such the coverage is inclusive.
