This new volume in the Thames and Hudson Chronicle series should immediately be considered a worthwhile addition to any library collection with an ancient history, or Roman history focus. The author, with a doctorate in Roman history, can be considered an authority in this subject, providing an added incentive to purchase this particular volume.
The book is beautifully presented containing 293 illustrations, 93 of which are in colour. The biographies of 57 of Rome's foremost rulers, covering the period from the birth of the Roman republic to its demise, make up the majority of this volume. Of the Roman elite covered in this work many are well known, others are more obscure, making this a compulsive read for any avid historian.
