Medieval Ireland: An Encyclopedia is volume 10 in the series Routledge Encyclopedias of the Middle Ages (formerly the Garland Eencyclopedias of the Middle Ages). Volume 8, Medieval Iberia (RR 2003/420) and Volume 9, Medieval Italy (RR 2005/174) have both recently been reviewed in these columns.
This encyclopedia comprises 347 A-Z entries either biographical or thematic. Most of the entries are followed by references and suggestions for further reading, useful for those who wish to research topics more closely. There are see also references to other relevant entries. The articles are contributed by over 100 scholars, the majority of whom are based in Ireland. There is an alphabetical table of contents and also a useful thematic table of contents listed before the entries. Additionally there is a comprehensive index at the end.
