J. W. Goodman's Introduction to Fourier Optics (first edition, 1968) is the textbook that I used as a student many years ago. The original edition of the book and notebook containing my course notes and completed problem assignments still sit on my office bookshelf, attesting to the value that I have placed on the book and the coursework as resource material. The new edition has been expanded considerably to include progress in this field and, as a result, the book has grown from 287 pages to 441 pages.
Assuming that the reader already has a background in Fourier analysis, this book deals with optical applications in diffraction, imaging, optical data processing, and holography. In the preface, Goodman provides specific guidance for instructors on...
