Administrators of large networks who are hesitant to go wireless may want to consider Intermec Technologies Corp.'s 2102 Corporate Access Point. The 5-inch-by-3-inch, 802.11bcompliant device offers good performance and really shines at supporting roaming clients, even across subnets. Intermec's 2102 works with the company's other key wireless units--the 2100, which supports legacy wireless technologies, such as 900 MHz and UHF in addition to 802.11 lb, and the 2101, which supports dual radio. etting up the access point in our RealWorld Labs at Syracase University was simple. The device, which ships with only a 10BASE-T interface, must be configured using a serial cable; by default it obtains a DHCP address. The 2102 can be administered using telnet or via a Web browser. The interface for all three setup types is almost identical: strictly text based, providing only the essentials.
