Trustwave, a Chicago-based payment-security company, announced this week it has acquired Vericept Corp., a firm that specializes in data loss prevention. Terms were not disclosed. Vericept's technology enables a client to designate the sensitive information to protect, such as transaction data, Michael Petitti, Trustwave chief marketing officer, tells CardLine sister publication ISO&Agent Weekly. "If something happens, such as a firewall is breached or antivirus definitions are not up to date and something gets in [the network], Vericept prevents the exportation of that data," Petitti says. "It prevents the leakage of that data." The Vericept product initially targeted large companies as customers, but Trustwave plans to bundle it with its Trustkeeper Agent, a security product smaller merchants use, Petitti says. Vericept is based in Waltham, Mass.
