Monarch Marking Systems (Booth No. 6604) has upgraded its Pathfinder Ultra portable bar-code printer through the use of radio frequency (RF) technology. The new Pathfinder Ultra RF Printer integrates bar-code printing, laser bar-code scanning and RF data communications in a handheld computing device. This device utilizes a PCMCIA radio card and SE 1000 scan engine from Symbol Technologies that provide wireless, real-time data transactions. The printer features a 32-bit processor for fast imaging and soft fonts, and can create tags and labels up to 2" x 4".
Avery Dennison, Soabar (Booth No. 5715), will introduce its Shipping System for automated carton labeling. The Shipping System consists of a Datapply 908 printer/applicator with conveyor, a touch-screen PC, bar-code scanners, and software for system and data control. It is available as a floor-mount system or with casters for transport to different packaging lines.
"The Soabar system prints and applies up to 1,000 'ship-to' labels per hour," says Stan Crandall, Soabar distribution market manager. "Estimates for hand-labeling average about 250 cartons per hour, so this system can provide a four-fold increase in productivity. And the system's bar-code technology virtually eliminates the chance for error."
