ABSTRACT/RESUME
I discuss in this paper some basic challenges of anti - racist education in Cana dian schools. Among specific concerns focused on are the relationships between questions of ed ucational equity, academic freedom, human rights, classroom pedagogy and anti - racist edu cation. I point to some issues that should be on the minds of every teacher, administrator, and student interested in the pursuit of anti - racist education in the schools. I place the discussion in the context of my role as a Black male teacher in a Canadian postsecondary institution located in an urban multi - ethnic geographical setting and how the issues of anti - racist education have and continue to inform my academic and research interests.
