Jay Katzen, a Republican running for lieutenant governor in Virginia this year, does a good job of integrating his campaign's strategic goals with his Web site. He also has an innovative and easy design that makes the site more appealing than many of the basic templates we see on candidate sites today.
The home page features news links and upcoming events front and center, alongside a large picture of the candidate, who is surrounded by the words for "welcome!" in several languages. The news and events are updated and relevant, with links to click through and get more information.
A click on the picture of Katzen takes visitors to a message from the candidate: "Welcome To Jay Katzen.com!... Thank you so very much for your enthusiasm over my campaign to become Virginia's next Lieutenant Governor." The variety of "welcome" translations are listed to the right, and a click on any one of these yields the message in that language - Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese or Chinese. These are all key constituencies in Northern Virginia, a traditionally Democratic area into which Katzen is undoubtedly trying to make inroads.
The rest of Katzen's site is full and friendly. The "news" section has rouhgly 100 newspaper articles about the campaign that date back to 1999, along with campaign press releases from 2000 and 2001 and...
