In their book Carpet Capital: The Rise of a New South Industry (Athens, Ga., 1999) Randall L. Patton and David B. Parker chronicled the remarkable story of the tufted carpet industry of Dalton, Georgia, where an indigenous local craft was adapted by local entrepreneurs to revolutionize carpet manufacture and make wall-to-wall carpeting the floor covering of choice for the consuming masses of post-World War II America.
