In the early 1990s, Dubuque Bank and Trust Co. in Dubuque, Iowa, struggled with the decision of whether to expand its cramped, circa-1924 downtown headquarters or move to a suburban shopping complex.
The bank's trust and finance departments and insurance agency were each housed in separate buildings blocks away from the main facility. "We were out of space," recalls President Lynn B. Fuller. "We needed enough room to bring everything together in one seamless package."
Dubuque Bank and Trust, which has total assets of about $162 million, also needed a new floor plan and interior design that would help it market a variety of retail financial services. In addition, the original building...
