Some M&A Roster Deals Worth Noting
Buyout of the Cowles Family
Acquirer: McClatchey Newspapers Inc.
Target: Cowles Media Co.
Price: $135 billion in cash and stock
Target Business: Newspapers and other publications
Snapshot: The deal bought out one of the last great family-controlled publishing empires. The key prize was Cowles' daily newspaper operations in Minneapolis which represented a major geographical extension for West Coast-centered McClatchey. McClatchey dealt off several of Cowles' specialty periodicals to Primedia Inc. for $200 million after completing the main deal.
Consolidation in Coin-Operated Services
Acquirer: Mac-Gray Corp.
Targets: Intirion Corp.; Copico Inc.
Prices: Intirion, $26.4 million in stock and cash; Copico, $15.1 million in cash and stock
