Apple Computer, Inc. is readying a version of Novel, Inc. NetWare for its PowerPC-based computers that it hopes will result in more Macintosh computers being deployed on enterprise networks.
NetWare 4.0 for the PowerPC, scheduled for availability by year end for Apple's new Power Macs, will be positioned as a server operating system supporting Macintosh, DOS and Windows clients, company officials said at a briefing here last week.
Until this point, Apple's own AppleTalk technology had been the only network operating system (NOS) that ran on its computers. Macintoshes have been able to act as clients on NetWare networks, but they have not been able to take advantage of the same NetWare services that Windows and DOS...
