WASHINGTON, D.C.--IBM will be joined by a host of partners next week in announcing a new version of its AIX System-View NetView/6000 product along with tools that promise to enhance NetView's multivendor management capabilities.
The enhancements, which will be announced at the ComNet '93 show here, include a scaled-down version of NetView/6000, improved management features for the 6611 Network Processor router and third-party products that make it easier to build applications for managing non-Systems Network Architecture devices from NetView.
The company will also demonstrate for the first time the SNA and non-SNA management capabilities of its OS/2-based Graphics Monitor Facility Host Subsystem (GMFHS). Available in May, GMFHS will let NetView Version 2 Release 3 users display and control SNA and non-SNA devices from one graphical net management screen. IBM executives last week gave Network World an exclusive firsthand look at the product and the rest of the management demo planned for its ComNet booth.
The new AIX SystemView NetView/6000 Lite will be a less feature-filled and less expensive version of IBM's AIX-and Simple Network Management Protocol/based platform for managing Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol nets. The product is intended to give big LAN management capabilities to companies with small LANs.
