The air spring experts at Triangle Air Spring have put together a checklist for inspecting air ride suspension systems. The company notes
that all of these steps need to be performed regularly to assure proper suspension performance and adequate service life.
1. Leaking air or restricted air flow: It is critical to maintain and control air supply to the air suspension. There is an air leak if one or both sides of the air suspension is flat. If both sides are flat, there may be a leak between the air brake system and the suspension air system. If only one side is flat, there may be a leak between the height control valve and the air spring.
If any of these seem to be the source of the problem, replace any damaged parts or tighten leaking fittings. Even though there may not be a noticeable air leak, it pays to inspect the air supply system during a regular PM schedule. Even a small leak will cause the compressor to work harder, which shortens compressor life and reduces fuel economy.
2. Automatic height control valve: An important air suspension maintenance item is the height control valve that controls the amount of air in the system. There are two types of height control valves, manual and automatic....
