Ties to television have helped two Fairfield County-based publications increase their circulation.
First half results from the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), Schaumberg, Ill., report WWF Magazine, a Stamford-based professional-wrestling publication, and Connecticut Magazine, Bridgeport, have made substantial strides in circulation this year, ranking both in the top 10 for overall gains nationwide.
According to the ABC reports for the first half of 1987, WWF Magazine ranked fourth in the nation in overall gains with a 54.6 percent increase to 212,890 subscribers. Connecticut Magazine reported circulation during the same period rose 36.4 percent overall to 93,087, placing the publication 10th in overall growth.
The two local magazines are not alone. Consumer magazine circulation is showing similar signs of health nationwide, according to Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management. More than 60 percent of the 425 magazines it studied recorded gains in the two-quarter period, compared to the 50.9 percent that reported gains a year ago.
The single-copy newsstand category, traditionally a weak spot for most publications, also showed signs of improvement: 53.8 percent of the 358 titles Folio: surveyed reported single-copy gains in units sold. Only 46.2 percent reported increases during the same period last year.
