JIRIBAM, Jan. 14 -- The villagers of Sejang and Mongbung today strongly opposed the eviction drive attempted by the civil administration of Jiribam district to the villages of Sejang and Mongbung.
A large number of police force and officials of civil administration, Jiribam district reached the said villages with machineries for land eviction, which according to the civil administration was encroached upon by the villagers from the erstwhile defunct Jiri Tea Estate Land.
On the other hand, the villagers of Sejang and Mongbung claimed that the land was once given by the village chiefs for utilization of tribal village land to the Manipur Plantation Crops Corporation Limited, Imphal (MPCC) which is an undertaking of the government of Manipur for the tea estate in Jiribam.
