Intel Corp.'s Folsom campus is about to add 650 jobs. But they're already Intel employees.
In an efficiency move, the company is moving its Intel Sacramento employees, picked up when Intel bought Level One Communications Inc. in 1999, from four Rancho Cordova buildings into Intel's half-vacant FM7 building. The move will boost Intel's Folsom payroll to 7,500.
"This shows Intel's desire to make a prudent business decision and create a lot of efficiencies," said spokesman Bill Mueller. "It doesn't make sense to pay mortgages on two different campuses when there's space available."
This year, to offset the sales slump in technology, Intel announced it would eliminate 5,000 jobs companywide through attrition and streamline operations in all its units.
At Folsom, Mueller estimated, the company has cut about 200 jobs through attrition this year.
350K square feet empties out: The move to Folsom is scheduled in phases from the first quarter of next year into the third. The employees will move out of four buildings totaling 310,000 square feet.
