Recreational Equipment Inc., the national retailer of outdoor gear and clothing, has chosen Roseville for its second store in the area.
REI, based in a Seattle suburb with 59 stores and two Internet sites, expects next spring to open a store in the new Ridge at Creekside shopping center on Galleria Boulevard at the interchange of Route 65 and Interstate 80.
"It's a great location," spokesman Mike Foley said. "It's going to be very convenient for a lot of our members. It's going to be a cool store."
REI chose the location partly based on where its 33,000 local members live and the site's proximity to recreational activities, such as hiking, climbing and skiing. "Roseville being so close to the Sierra is ideal," Foley said.
The 24,500-square-foot store will employ about 50. The Evergreen Co., a local developer, is handling the project.
