DeVry Inc., which operates a private technical and business school with 67 locations in the United States and Canada, plans to open a DeVry University Center in Elk Grove in July.
Initially the center plans to offer day and evening classes for 100 students working toward bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration or associate's degrees in electronics, said Jamie Kho, regional vice president of DeVry University and president of the school's Fremont campus.
He also worked for 27 years at California State University Sacramento as a professor and administrator.
The Elk Grove school plans to hire four or five full-time faculty and about one dozen part-time teachers. Eventually the school may add other programs, building to 400 or 500 students.
DeVry has leased 15,000 square feet in a building under construction in the Laguna West Business Center, with an option for another 9,000 square feet. The school's building plan includes a laboratory for biomedical coursework, Kho said.
The hope and the plan is to be able to grow quickly," Kho said.
