Al Gianini, executive director of the Sacramento Area Commerce and Trade Organization, looks around SACTO's conference room. It seems to be littered with maps.
Many of them show local business parks. The maps are tools Gianini has used in trying to lure companies to Sacramento during his decade as the economic development group's director.
He'll also need the maps in his new job.
On July 17, Gianini will start work as a co-manager of CB Richard Ellis' offices in Sacramento, Roseville and Stockton. He and co-manager Neil Smyth will oversee the most powerful commercial real estate brokerage in Sacramento.
CB's 90 brokers - almost double the rolls of its nearest competitor - routinely report cumulative transaction values exceeding $800 million a year. 'Mat's thought to be far more than the closest competitors, who do not report comparable data.
CB brokers such as Bill Palmer, Bill Swettenham, Mark Demetre and Craig Burress are legendary for their ability to make deals and generate a lot of that $800 million plus. Gianini wants to work with them.
"I'm chomping at the bit," he smiles. "I've got ideas and I want to bounce them off those guys."
