For Alan Wong and J. W. Nguyen, Silicon Valley does not seem mired in recession at all.
The two represent a group of local investors who bought Vallco Fashion Park Shopping Center in Cupertino for $67 million.
Since the sale closed on June 12, the mall's office has been inundated with potential tenants (a dozen visited on June 17 alone) looking to get in literally on the ground floor, they say. That's where the new owners plan to develop an international shopping experience with stores offering products from Korea to Australia, from the Philippines to India.
People no longer will need to travel the world to find souvenirs of faraway places, says Mr. Nguyen. They will have Vallco.
"We think it's going to be the first international mall in the country," says Mr. Nguyen.
