Looking for a CAD package that doesn't cost thousands and requires at least a Pentium-based PC? Autodesk may have the answer in a version of its best-selling low-cost 2D CAD package. AutoCAD LT Release 2 (LT R2) for Windows is ideal for those moving from drafting tools to CAD. It's also great for part-time CAD users. The easy-to-learn $495 package makes users feel comfortable and confident in their work.
The uniformity of installing Windows software also provides a degree of comfort. I didn't read the manual before installing the software, and no difficulties cropped up.
Things also went right while hunting for new features. Direct distance entry, a useful feature borrowed from Generic CADD, lets users draw lines to approximate locations and then make adjustments.
