Saturn's foray into the world of SUVs is a success, at least in my book. Its slightly angular looks are noticeable enough to get glances from drivers, but not odd enough to get flak from the automotive press. The front-wheel-drive (FWD) Vue we tested carried a standard 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine which puts out 143 hp at 5,400 rpm, and 152 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. The four-- cylinder's low-grade whine is not unusual. The Getrag five-speed manual transmission is a bit gummy in first and second gears, but shifts more easily on third through fifth gears. Clutching is fight, but not overly so. An optional 3.0-liter V6 provides 181 hp but, sadly, does not come with a manual transmission.
