Fontes Franciscani makes available in one volume the Latin original of the writings of Francis and of Clare of Assisi as well as of the historical and hagiographical sources related to the first Franciscan century. The editions republished here are the ones which, in the current state of research, are the most solidly established critically. Some three or four of the sources, such as the Compilatio Assisiensis, lack the proper critical apparatus because the original publishers refused to authorize their reproduction. But even for such cases, corrections and at times modifications to the text have been made at the request of their respective editors.
