At one point, David Martinez was pushing 280 pounds. After witnessing family members undergo amputations because of complications from diabetes, he knew it was time to lose weight.
But Martinez and his wife did much more than just lose weight on a low-carb diet. They built a business around it.
After five years in business, the couple's LowCarb Success Inc. is working on developing sucrose-free products with which to court Whole Foods Markets Inc. and Wild Oats Markets Inc., two of the world's largest natural foods retailers.
David Martinez says his Hutto-based company-, has been in talks with Whole Foods and Wild Oats, both of which traditionally havebanned products containing sucrose or those labeled as low-carb.
Martinez says statistics from the natural food industry are what led LowCarb Success to woo Whole Foods and Wild Oats.
