* Korean Contracts to Ericsson. Ericsson has been awarded a pair of contracts worth $30 million to deliver AXE switching equipment and intelligent network products to two Korean telecommunications companies. Korea Telecom and ONSE Telecom will use the equipment in their fixed networks. (Kathy Egan, Ericsson, 212/685-4030) * Scottish Telecom Buys VoiceServers. Digital Sound Corp. has contracted to supply its VoiceServer 3110 systems to Scottish Telecom. The units will provide voice and fax messaging and network-wide call answering services. Scottish Telecom, a new network provider, currently operates only in Scotland, but could eventually do business throughout the United Kingdom. (Carolyn Austin, Digital Sound Corp., 805/566-2015) * Voice Processing to Brazil. Telesp, a Brazilian telephone company, is purchasing Octel Communications Corp.'s Sierra voice processing system. Telesp plans to have 15 of the systems installed by the end of the year. The carrier is expanding its cellular telephone service in the state of Sao Paulo. Every new cellular subscriber will receive a free voice mailbox bundled with the service. (Terry Huang, Octel, 408/324-3460) * Digital Switches to Malaysia. NEC Corp.'s Malaysian manufacturing subsidiary, PERNEC Corp. has received a contract from Telekom Malaysia Bhd, to provide its NEAX61 public digital switching systems. Each switch can handle up to 800,000 lines. The Malaysian government's national telecommunications policy is committed to increasing the telephone penetration rate to 50 percent from the current 17 percent. Choice Hotels International has awarded a 10-year $200 million contract to AT&T to provide domestic and international long distance service to its more than 3,100 hotels around the world. The companies are combining previous contracts. The OneNet Service creates a virtual private network for each business customer. Guests will have access to advanced network management, toll-fraud protection, electronic messaging, and third-party billing. (Karen Way, AT&T, 908/221-6632) * Lucent Switches in Argentina. CTI Movil, the Argentinean cellular network operator, has awarded Lucent Technologies a $35 million contract to expand its wireless advanced mobile phone service network and install an on-line billing platform. Lucent will install a 5ESS-2000 mobile switching center and AUTOPLEX system 1000 and 96 series IIm cell sites during the next six months. Guangdong-Nortel Telecommunications Switching Equipment Ltd has been awarded a $25 million contract by the Beijing Telecommunications Administration to deliver Nortel DMS advanced services node systems. The systems are designed to extend the capabilities of existing Nortel DMS-100 switches in Beijing's telecommunications network. The systems support intelligent network access and advanced services, and integrated services digital networks. (Peter Janecek, Nortel, 905/566-3279) * Wireless Switches to Japan. Ericsson has been awarded a $75 million contract to provide its PDC mobile telephone system to Digital Tuka Kyushu, of Japan. The order includes AXE switching and radio base station equipment.
