Planned maintenance optimisation (PMO) has had significant success across the world - this technique will be explained at next month's Maintenance in Manufacturing conference
At this year's Maintenance in Manufacturing conference, organised by MCP and Works Management, there will be a half-day workshop on 27 October to explain the principles and benefits of a new approach to reducing equipment downtime. Planned maintenance optimisation (PMO) has been developed and used in Australia in the past 10 years by Steve Turner of OMCS International. The process is extensively used in Asia and is now available through OMCS Europe, a member of Amis MCP International, the global maintenance consulting group and co-organiser of this conference.

Working in cross-functional teams from the shop floor, the PMO team identifies what duplication exists within their own environment, what elements of the current maintenance program are useful and what are inappropriate. The team then establishes what critical failures outside of the maintenance program can be handled by PM. Once this is completed, the team establishes the most...
