In a ceremony attended by former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Circuit City launched the "firedog Across America" program, which will honor the public service of firefighters nationwide. An online essay contest will give participants the opportunity to nominate their local volunteer and professional firehouses for recognition. A $650,000 prize pool will be split among the winners. The first donations from the program were accepted by Giuliani at Ladder 3/Engine Co. 6 in New York City with FDNY Foundation vice-chairman Andrew Guarino. "This program will give communities across the nation a chance to express their gratitude and help ensure that their firefighters receive the public recognition and financial support they deserve," said Giuliani. The first donation, totaling $100,000, was made from Circuit City to the National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children's Foundation. Circuit City donated an additional $100,000 to the FDNY Foundation. More information is available at www.firedog. com.
