Boise-based Fireside Homes is building what the company says will probably be the first LEED-certified gold-rated home in Idaho.
The house, a model home in Hidden Springs, incorporates extra insulation, efficient appliances and plumbing and electrical fixtures, along with local, recycled building materials to meet its green certification, according to Fireside Homes owner Joe Collins.
Fireside has built Energy Star homes before - the owners of Hidden Springs request that as a minimum energy efficiency guideline for its builders, he said - but this will be his first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified house, which adds factors other than energy and water conservation.
The home will use air filtration systems and a fan in the garage that pumps out carbon monoxide from cars before it is circulated in the home, Collins said. "Really you'll be breathing hospital- quality air," he said.
