LIKE OTHER MUSEUMS in the city, the New York Hall of Science has been hit hard by the recession. Funding cuts from the city, corporations and foundations, along with a steep drop in earned income, are forcing the institution to slash its $13 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year by at least 15%.
But Margaret Honey, the museum's president and chief executive, isn't panicking. Instead, she has embarked on a campaign to raise at least $20 million with the goals of renovating the institution's Great Hall and creating a host of state-of-the-art exhibits to honor its 50th anniversary in 2014.
