Abstract
In an interview, Ralph Hansen, manager of Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health Care's retirement plans, speaks about how he will cater to a newly added division serving highly compensated employees (HCE), as well as his methods for centralizing administration, and improving benefits and pre-retirement education. To accommodate the HCEs and still pass ADP testing, he offers a 403(b) parallel to the 401(k) plan offered. He also offers a non-qualified deferred compensation plan for HCEs. Education is provided by 2 in-house people who spend 225 days a year each meeting with employees in seminars and by appointment to discuss program provisions, pensions, retiree medical, 401(k)s - asset allocation and so on - stopping short of giving advice.
