San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) yesterday (7/28) moved to extend its advanced voice services to an Internet protocol (IP) environment, signing a definitive agreement to acquire Manchester, N.H.-based Summa Four Inc. (SUMA), a provider of programmable switches. Summa Four's open standards-based programmable switches will enable Cisco to offer value-added telephony applications to new and existing telecom service providers, as well as extend these services to a voice-over-IP infrastructure.
