ENDICOTT - A group of Southern Tier businessmen have joined together to keep a technology icon in town. Newly formed Endicott Interconnect Technologies, Inc. has purchased International Business Machines Corp.'s 4.1-million-square-foot Endicott campus, as well as the computer giant's microelectronics operation. Home to technology businesses for nearly a century, the Endicott campus is known as the birthplace of IBM. Approximately half the 4,000 workers will remain with IBM, while those involved in the manufacture of microelectronic products will join Endicott Interconnect. IBM has signed a 10-year lease on 1.4 million square feet for its remaining 2,000 employees, says IBM spokesman Todd Martin.
"This is part of the company's overall restructuring begun in June," Martin adds.
The Endicott campus once employed more than 11,000.
