SYRACUSE - One of the most oft-cited statistics in business is the rate of failure for start-up companies - about half stay in business longer than four years, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.
A group of about 30 local entrepreneurs and business owners got some advice recently on how to avoid winding up on the losing end of that statistic. Patrick (Pat) Calhoun, chief technology officer for the wireless networks business unit at Cisco Systems Inc., spoke Feb. 23 at the monthly Syracuse Technology Roundtable.
The event is organized by the New York State Center for Advanced Technology in Computer Applications and Software Engineering (CASE) at Syracuse University and the Syracuse Technology Garden.
