With this volume a formidable task has been completed. A calendar now exists of all the material relating to Kent in the assize indictment files for the Home Circuit from 1559 until 1688. These are held by the Public Record Office (reference ASSIZES 35). The calendar consists of six volumes, the first two of which formed part of a project to calendar the files for all five counties in the circuit for the period 1559 to 1625. The survival of the Home Circuit files is far more complete than that of the files for the other circuits in the country. The volumes for the original project appeared between 1975 and 1983. An introductory volume followed in 1985, which summarised the historical background and included some analysis of the material. Kent...
