NEW ORLEANS--Customers of Nortel's PowerTouch 350 screen phone will be able to use the device to access the Internet. Nortel debuted its new PowerView Internet Access service yesterday (6/2) at SUPERCOMM. PowerView is based on a multimedia platform called the Network Applications Vehicle that allows Internet text to be displayed on a telephone. Nortel will work with Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) to market the service. Subscribers are expected to use the service to retrieve headline news, stock quotes and weather forecasts and display that information on their screen phones. Nortel claims there are 1 million PowerTouch phones in use in North America. (Joanne Latham, Nortel, 919/992-7851)
