Piedmont Hawthorne, the second largest aviation chain of
fixed-base operators (FBOs) in the country, announced on Monday its acquisition of Sair Aviation of Syracuse. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Aviation's vice president since
1992, comments, "This is great for
Syracuse. If you remember, last
year Piedmont Services and
Hawthorne Aviation merged
together to become a large chain
operation, and they're
aggressively expanding. We have
become their 31st fixed-base
operation in this country. Just
recently, they purchased three
FBOs--Calgary, Vancouver, and
Toronto. And next year they plan
on further expansion in the
Midwest, West, and in Europe."
Messenger, who will remain as general manager under Piedmont Hawthorne, talks about why he believes the company was so interested in coming to Syracuse. "When Piedmont Hawthorne came here to look around, they were completely amazed...
