Building boom will create shortage of construction crews
WEST POINT, Ga. - Kia Motors Corp. could find itself in a recruiting war with the U.S. Army.
Kia needs thousands of contractors and construction workers to build its first U.S. auto plant here near the Georgia-Alabama state line. The automaker held its ceremonial groundbreaking Friday, Oct. 20, after a six-month delay.
But just a few miles away, the Army has begun quietly surveying hills and forests for one of the biggest federal construction projects in decades. The project will consolidate U.S. artillery and infantry operations into a single command at nearby Fort Benning.
