PaperFree Medical Solutions Inc. will integrate electronic prescription technology into its electronic medical records system. The Kokomo, Ind.-based vendor will work with Houstonbased NewCrop LLC to add the NewCrop Electronic Prescribing System to its MD PaperFree EMR system. The NewCrop application is designed to enable physicians to use PDAs or other hardware to automatically fax prescriptions to pharmacies. It also enables integration with patient insurance data to verify which drugs will be covered by managed care organizations. The integrated system will help reduce the time and effort required from patients and physicians to fill prescriptions, executives at the companies say.
