Science Applications International Corp., San Diego, has acquired a 10% equity interest in Oceania Inc., Palo Alto, Calif. Oceania sells the Wave computer-- based patient records software. Its clients include Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, Calif., which is implementing Wave as part of its national clinical information system. SAIC and Oceania both support a number of shared clients who requested that the companies form a stronger relationship. SAIC also recently acquired Oacis Healthcare Holdings Corp., a San Rafael, Calif.-based vendor of clinical database services. Oacis also is a vendor for Kaiser's national system. Additionally, SAIC has been selected as the lead vendor to build a Web-accessible database for the Florida Department of Health. The database, called CoreSTAT, will enable Florida physicians to submit via the Internet credentialing information, including data on education, training, licenses, specialties and affiliations. Hospitals and payers then will have access, also via the Internet, to the credentialing information.
