It's five months late, but Alaska Seafood International Inc. began commercial production at its $125 million seafood plant in South Anchorage Dec. 13.
Construction is complete, machinery is installed and tested, and the first 10 production workers were hired Dec. 9, John Brady, chief executive of the company, told the Alaska Industrial Development & Export Authority board Dec. 10.
AIDEA helped the new venture by investing $48 million in land, a twostory 148,000-square-foot building for the plant, and a power generation unit, which are being leased by ASI.
Equipment for the plant, an adjacent cold storage plant and working capital is being provided from private sources.
