Our Global Neighborhood is a work compiled by the Commission on Global Governance (Commission), an independent group of twenty-eight world leaders. The aim of the Commission in compiling this report was to assess the status of the current global community and suggest ways in which global matters could be improved in certain areas of concern. The work consists of seven chapters and three annexes.
The work begins with a chapter entitled "A New World." This chapter, in an introductory manner, outlines trends and attitudes currently developing in the world. The Commission stresses that the world is experiencing a time of great and visible change, during which world leaders must respond with vision and action. The Commission particularly focuses on transformations in the military arena, economic performance, and societal and environmental concerns. The overarching principle of this chapter is that world leadership needs to focus on people and actions, rather than power, in order to meet and respond to these changes.
