Mob Drama's Finale Lags In Traditional Viewing
The New York crew's wire house may have met an explosive end, but the sixth-season finale of The Sopranos failed to truly ignite with viewers of traditional, linear television.
The June 4 show garnered an 18.4 rating and 26 share within Home Box Office's universe, translating into some 8.9 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research data. That's just a touch more than the 8.89 million who tuned in when the sixth campaign of Home Box Office's mob drama premiered, as the finale didn't spark the big ratings spike that occurred on June 6, 2004, when season five's concluder attracted 11 million viewers, versus the 9.8 million the series averaged that year.
Sunday Night Sendoff The respective sixth and first seasons of HBO series The Sopranos and Big Love are in the books. In both cases, the premieres on March 12 outpaced the season finales on June 4 in terms of the initial viewer delivery.
