Microchip technology that tracks how many times staff wash their hands could be introduced into nurse uniforms.
The move is being considered in Northern Ireland where a standard corporate uniform for staff in all the province's hospitals has been agreed, nurses attending RCN congress in Harrogate heard last week.
Speaking in a debate on uniforms, Fiona Carroll, who sits on a uniform discussion group in Northern Ireland, told nurses that uniforms for medical staff could also be the same across hospitals.
