Abstract

Perhaps anticipating a critical reception from the Australian art world the organisers of the Melbourne exhibition highlighted the affirming aspects of the work rather than its status as a work of art, leading one columnist to note: "the organisers were reluctant to comment on the aesthetics of the piece" (Thompson 1988).
