SOUTH CHARLESTON -- Unlike some recent developments in the Kanawha Valley, an announcement in late May put West Virginia on the receiving end of a corporate move.
Clearon Corp., which manufactures chlorinated dry bleach at its South Charleston location, announced it will be closing its tableting and packaging plant in Livonia, Mich., and moving that facility to South Charleston.
The $4.5 million move will bring as many as 160 new jobs to South Charleston. Clearon, an affiliate of Israel Chemicals Ltd., is only 15 months old and currently employs 174 at the bleach manufacturing plant in South Charleston.
Its entire operation will now be in South Charleston.
Gov. Cecil Underwood made the announcement at the plant in South Charleston and said all state agencies will work hard to ensure a positive transition for Clearon.
"We are delighted that the company's contribution to the economy will be even greater with this new investment and hat your roots are taking hold and growing rapidly in West Virginia," Underwood said.
